At least 28 were wounded, including 12 police officers in clashes in the Druze village of Peki'in in northern Israel Tuesday overnight. One policeman was seriously wounded by a rock to the head and one rioter was seriously wounded by gunfire. Six moderate injuries were reported as well. The wounded have been evacuated to Nahariya Hospital.
MDA medics also came under attack when they tried to evacuate the wounded. Two ambulances had their windshields smashed.
The riots began when police arrived at the Druze village to make arrests due to vandalism of a new cell phone tower erected in nearby Jewish Peki'in HaChadasha. Police are trying to negotiate with Druze leaders to calm the situation.
