US Agrees on Iran Sanctions; Putin Opposed

The United States has agreed to a harsh set of sanctions against Iran, saying the country supports terrorism and is planning to create nuclear weapons.  The new sanctions target the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Iran’s defense ministry, and three Iranian banks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin objected to the decision, saying the sanctions would “worsen the situation” and “bring it to a dead end.”  Putin said the US should “resolve the situation peacefully” through talks.
