State prosecutors said Thursday that they planned to charge senior Israel Railways officials with negligence in connection with a 2006 train accident that killed five people and injured 80. Director-General Ofer Linczewski, Deputy Director-General Harel Even, and Supervisor of Transportation Yuval Bloom will face indictments. The three will be granted hearings before the indictments are filed.
A train hit a stopped truck at the Beit Yehoshua Junction. The truck’s driver, who had abandoned his vehicle and was not injured, faces charges of manslaughter. Following the accident, railways officials were accused of failing to take sufficient safety precautions.
