Heads of British universities met Wednesday with Haifa University officials Wednesday in a show of solidarity following an attempted boycott of Israeli institutions of higher learning by British academics. Haifa Univ. President Yitzchak Apeloig said, "I am pleased that the threat of a boycott has finally been removed; we now have to focus our efforts on research and scientific cooperation."

The British government supported the visiting delegation, which included presidents and senior professors from universities in England, Wales and Scotland. "We came to talk about the importance of deepening academic ties between England and this part of the world," said Prof. Rick Trainor, who led the group.
