School Strike To Continue Despite Rabin Memorial

High school teachers have rejected a call by Education Minister Yuli Tamir (Labor) that the high school strike be suspended on Wednesday to allow students to learn about Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin. The school system usually uses the memorial day to promote messages of peace and to warn against right-wing incitement that often is blamed for the murder.

The strike is in its 12th day, and there is no contact between the two sides. The shutdown of classes at universities also is continuing, three days after its beginning, with no signs of an agreement.
