A top North Korean official was in Damascus Sunday for talks with Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Naji al-Utri, according to the AFP news agency.
The North Korean Parliament Speaker told reporters following the meeting that the two countries were working on developing a closer relationship. He added that North Korea supports Syria’s “just efforts” to take the Golan Heights from Israel.
Foreign media reported last month that a September 6 Israel Air Force attack on a site in an open area in northeastern Syria targeted a North Korean-made nuclear facility. Syria first denied the existence of the facility, then admitted it existed and was destroyed, and then over this weekend denied its admission. The facility was destroyed. Syria has begun to dismantle the ruins and wipe out any evidence of the facility's existence.
