MK Nisan Slumiansky attacked Education Minister Yuli Tamir because of severe cuts in the funding for yeshivas. The allotment for yeshivas in the state budget which is being brought before the Knesset is "near zero," he told Arutz Sheva in Hebrew.
Besides the yeshiva funding, which has been "totally erased," he said, additional funds for religious programs suffered cuts: the midrashot for girls, the National Service budget, and the religious seed group budget were all dramatically reduced, according to Slumiansky. At the same time, he said, Tamir is increasing budgets for "pluralistic" programs which she and her party, Labor, favor.
Slumiansky said that he was bitterly disappointed with the Shas party, which is a member of the coalition, and which failed to show up for a meeting that had been convened to try and prevent the cuts.
