Egyptian officials said they have uncovered two smuggling tunnels, including one that is half a mile long. Several suspected terrorists were arrested and weapons, ammunition and heroin were confiscated.

The discovery of the tunnels came after Israeli complaints that Egypt has done nothing to prevent terrorists from smuggling huge amounts of weapons and explosives into Gaza. Egypt occasionally has publicly uncovered several smuggling tunnels, but Israeli intelligence estimates that there are hundreds that connect a virtual underground city in Gaza.
