Senior Israeli officials have complained to their counterparts in the U.S. that Egypt is "strengthening Hamas" by enabling arms smuggling from Egypt into Gaza, Ha'aretz reported.

The officials said the continued influx of weapons and terror experts from Sinai to Gaza posed a "strategic threat" and could endanger the international summit that is to be held in Annapolis, Md. in November.

The officials expressed their concern over the possibility that a rocket attack from Gaza would cause serious casualties, and thus lead to a military incursion by Israel. They asked the American officials to "talk about this" with the Egyptians.
