U.S. President George W. Bush urged Western nations this weekend to support Palestinian Authority Chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas “so the average Palestinian can see a better life ahead and can realize there is something better than violence.”

Speaking in an interview broadcast on Al-Arabiya television, Bush said he is optimistic about next month’s Mideast summit, scheduled to be held November 26 in Annapolis, Maryland.

“Our strategy is to get all concerned countries to the table to get this comprehensive peace and move forward in a way that is tangible,” he said. “I am very optimistic that we can achieve a two-state solution.”
