Over 100,000 Muslims were allowed to attend prayers at the Temple Mount despite an IDF closure of Judea and Samaria that began before the Sukkot holiday and has not yet been lifted.
Today is the fourth Friday of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month.
The Temple Mount, or Mount Moriah, was the location of the First and Second Jewish Temples. Since the end of the 7th century CE, it has been a place of prayer for Muslims. The IDF conquered the Mount in 1967 but immediately gave back the keys to the compound to Muslim authorities. Jews are only permitted into the Mount at specific times and are prevented from praying there.
