According to a report in Haaretz, Russian-Israeli billionaire Lev Leviev established a foundation that paid 60 secular public schools to give lessons with Jewish content. While the schools already teach Tanakh (Bible) and Jewish history, the courses sponsored by Leviev reportedly taught Jewish philosophy from a traditional, not secular, perspective.
The courses were reportedly incorporated in several schools for students in first through sixth grades, and were taught by religious students in teachers colleges. The Education Ministry said it would investigate the report after the holidays.
