Stef Wertheimer's $4.4 billion sale of his Isracar Metalworking firm to American Warren Buffet left him with holdings making him Israel's richest resident, according to the annual rankings by Forbes magazine. A close second is Shari Arison, who controls Bank HaPoalim.

Wertheimer's estimated $4.4 billion pales next to the Middle East's richest man, Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud of Saudi Arabia. His fortune is estimated at $20.3 billion.
