Rabbi Avraham Shapira was "the rabbi of all the rabbis," MK Benny Elon (NU/NRP) said Friday. "We now know how right he was about the folly of the Disengagement from Gush Katif," Elon said. "He was aggressive, loyal and alert and he led the same policy that Rabbi Kook did in terms of loyalty to the Land of Israel and fighting for its values," he added.

MK Uri Ariel (NU/NRP) said that the late Rabbi's halachic pronouncement regarding refusal to follow military orders to evict Jews from their homes was binding to all of us, "and that was how we should have acted."

Likud Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu said: "Rabbi Shapira was a central pillar of religious Zionism and of those faithful to Jerusalem and the Land of Israel. He was always impressive in his loyalty to the Jewish people's eternal values, [which came] from a will to see the love of Israel." The Rabbi "was a believer in dialogue," he added.
