The funeral for Rabbi Avraham Shapira, a former chief rabbi of Israel and considered by many as the senior leader in the nationalist movement, will begin at 10:30 Friday morning. The funeral procession will begin at the Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva, and he will be interred on the Mount of Olives. Motorists are advised of expected delays in traffic.
He was hospitalized on the second day of the Rosh HaShanah New Year, when he was praying at his home at the Merkaz HaRav, where was chief rabbi. His students were at his bedside to assure the presence of 10 men, the legal quorum for public prayer.
