Yom Kippur Beats Baseball 1-0

New York Mets Jewish right fielder Shawn Green refused to play against the Florida Marlins on Yom Kippur, similar to previous years when a game was scheduled on the holy day. Another player, Ryan Braun, who is not Jewish according to Jewish law because his father but not his mother is Jewish, chose to play for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Jewish race car driver Mike Ashley also decided to stay out of a race scheduled for Yom Kippur although the decision may cost a place in the top four drivers who will advance to competition for a championship. "Yom Kippur is the highest holiday of the year,” Ashley told The Shmooze web site. “If I qualify or not, it doesn’t matter. Winning a world championship or a race unethically wouldn’t be worthwhile to me."
