JNF To Answer Court Suit That Land Be Offered to Arabs
(IsraelNN.com) The Jewish National Fund (JNF) is to appear at the High Court Monday to answer a petition demanding that land it administers be available to Arabs. An unsubstantiated report in the Hebrew newspaper Ha'aretz stated that the JNF will agree to part of the demands in order to avoid a possible court ruling against it. Attorney General Menachem Mazuz has backed the Arab petitioners, who filed suit after the JNF refused to allow them to bid on tenders of residential housing lots in Carmiel, located east of Haifa.
The Knesset has tried to counter a possible High Court order against the JNF and recently passed a bill in first reading that declares JNF lands are to be leased only to Jews.
