Proposal for ‘Complete Disengagement from Gaza’

(IsraelNN.com) A plan to seal off Gaza and hand it back to the Egyptians is being formulated by the IDF, according to a report by the Jerusalem Post. Under the proposal, Israel would close all border crossings, including Erez, Karni, Sufa and Kerem Shalom. Complete responsibility for the territory would be transferred to Egypt.

The plan was presented by Deputy Chief of General Staff Maj.-Gen. Moshe Kaplinsky in recent meetings with defense officials. “The idea is to finalize what was started with the 2005 Disengagement,” said a senior defense official quoted in the report. “No matter how much we try and what we do, the humanitarian organizations consistently blame us for the humanitarian situation in Gaza. This way they will no longer have a case against us, since we won’t be involved.”
