United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice criticized the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Wednesday after IAEA head Mohammed El-Baradei spoke out earlier in the week against the use of force in Iran. Rice explained that the US is considering “all options” against Iran, and said that diplomatic initiatives need both “a set of incentives and a set of teeth.”
The IAEA is a “technical agency,” Rice said, and “is not in the business of diplomacy.” No agency can diminish Iran’s obligations, she said. Rice has previously accused El-Baradei of “muddying the message” to Iran.
