Hanegbi, Bareket Oppose Ramon Plan

(IsraelNN.com) Kadima members MK Tzachi Hanegbi and Jerusalem mayoral candidate Nir Bareket joined several others in criticizing a plan devised by Vice-Premier Chaim Ramon (Kadima).  Ramon said Tuesday that he is negotiating with the Palestinian Authority on behalf of the government, and that the government is planning to split Jerusalem along demographic lines and offer control of the Old City to a committee.

While Hanegbi did not object to granting the PA control of Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem, he said it was “forbidden” to give up control of the Old City, “beloved to the heart of the Jewish people.”  Bareket asked Ramon to clarify his position, and said that if Kadima volunteered to split Jerusalem, he would be forced to leave the party.
