The Supreme Court will hear a plea on Thursday morning against the destruction of ancient artifacts on the Temple Mount. The Council for the Prevention of Destruction of Antiquities on the Temple Mount filed the plea several days ago, asking the court to order a halt to mechanized digging and nighttime digging on the mount.
The council and several archeologists have complained that the Muslim Wakf is destroying important historical artifacts during recent digs. They have asked that reporters be allowed free access to the site to ensure that ancient ruins will not be destroyed. Among the ruins that the council hopes to protect is an ancient wall that, according to one archeologist, could belong to the Temple itself—the first such finding in the history of modern Israel, he says.
