High-Level Talks Seek to Restore Egyptian-Iranian Ties

Egypt and Iran are holding senior-level talks toward restoring full diplomatic relations.

The two countries have not had such relations since the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979. In 2003, talks broke down over Iran's refusal to remove a commemoration honoring Khaled al-Islambouli, the head of the group that assassinated former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in 1981.

Iran is reportedly seeking Egypt's support in pursuing nuclear capabilities.
