New Accountant-General Appointed
Shouky Oren, the General-Manager of Bank Leumi in Switzerland, has been appointed Accountant-General by Finance Minister Roni Bar-On (Kadima).
Former Accountant-General Dr. Yaron Zalicha will end his term on October 19 after four years. Zalicha acted as whistle-blower in the Bank Leumi Affair, which implicated Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in interference with the privatization of the bank on behalf of wealthy associates.
Zalicha's term was not extended, a decision made by Finance Minister Bar-On, who is a close confidant of PM Olmert. He plans to fight the decision in court. Oren's appointment must be approved.
