Forty-five IDF soldiers remained hospitalized midday Tuesday after a rocket attack on the Zikim army base less than a mile north of Gaza. IDF sources said that 69 soldiers were wounded in the attack, which hit the Zikim basic training center when most of the new recruits were sleeping.
One soldier in critical condition was airlifted to Shiba Hospital in Tel HaShomer in Tel Aviv. Four others are listed in serious condition, seven were moderately wounded and 57 soldiers were lightly injured.
Although most of the soldiers were treated at the scene, others were taken to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva, Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva and Hadassah Hospital in the Ein Kerem section of Jerusalem. Of these, 26 soldiers were treated and released.
