The Turkish government has asked Israel to explain the presence of two fuel tanks that were discovered on its territory close to the Syrian border, stated the Turkish Foreign Ministry. Syria insists that the fuel tanks were dropped by Israel Air Force planes it claims invaded its air space last week.
Unconfirmed reports Sunday said that Syria has begun a partial call-up of its reserve troops, according to Lebanese newspaper An-Naher. It was unclear whether last week's alleged incident might have been the impetus for the move.
Israel has not commented on the reports and journalists were barred from the customary practice of interviewing ministers entering Sunday's weekly cabinet meeting, in accordance with a decision by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to maintain government silence on the issue.
