Nature Authority Releases Eagles into the Wild

The eagle will once again soar over the skies of the Judean Desert, as Parks Authority workers released 67 eagles back into their natural habitat over the weekend after they had been “captured” the week before. The eagles were gathered into a central aviary, where they were fed and tagged with special radio bracelets, so that nature authorities can keep an eye on their whereabouts.

Preservation of the eagle has become a very important issue in Israel in recent years, because many of the birds have been wiped out by poisonous chemicals from factories and on farms. The eagles generally feed on animals that have been killed by poison or pesticides, and they absorb the poison into their populations – spreading the poison far and wide because they have a large flying range.
