Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has broken the long standing tradition of granting interviews before the Rosh HaShanah holiday, maintaining that his work schedule does not allow giving time to the media. His aides said that the Prime Minister wants to keep private the negotiations with Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and also prefers to spend time working on the issue instead of talking with the press.
They added that media interviews often are an attempt to "anger the Prime Minister in an effort to get a better headline than their competitors."
