Political and public figures are up in arms over a plan by Transportation and Road Safety Minister Shaul Mofaz to use Arab inciter and Islamic Movement leader Sheikh Ra'ad Salah to preach against bad driving. The Legal Forum for the Land of Israel has asked Attorney General Menachem Mazuz to block the idea. Salah has been convicted of working with Hamas, served slightly more than two years in jail and recently was indicted for inciting violence and rebellion.
The Ministry of Transportation justified the proposal, explaining that his anti-Zionism does not negate his influence on Arab drivers, who proportionately are involved in a higher rate of accidents than Jews.
