A senior Iranian official who formerly headed the Islamic Republic's Revolutionary Guard threatened the US and Israel Tuesday with attacks on American troops and unknown damage to the Jewish state if America launches an attack on Iran.
Yahya Rahim Safavi was quoted by Iran's Fars newspaper Tuesday saying that the US has "no assessment of the extent of the harm that would result to its 200,000 troops in the region in the event of an attack, and also does not know what will happen to Israel in the event of an attack or how the transport of oil through the Persian Gulf will be affected."
Safavi was recently appointed senior advisor for armed forces affairs to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
