The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann overstepped his authority when he gave orders to the District court in Petach Tikva.  The changes Friedmann made are under the Knesset’s jurisdiction, the judges said.

Friedmann had ordered that 1,500 cases be moved from the Tel Aviv court to the court in Petach Tikva, which will open next week.  He also ordered the Petach Tikva court to refrain from ruling in cases of bankruptcy, tax appeals, prisoner appeals, and more.

The Supreme Court ruled that the Petach Tikva court would be allowed to operate according to Friedmann’s orders until March 1, 2008.  Only 900 cases would be transferred from Tel Aviv, the court ruled.
