Knesset Panel Meets on Closing of Religious School

The Knesset Education Committee has discussed a move by the city of Kfar Saba to close the religious Shuvu school, which has been refused a license to operate. The school has accused the city of intentionally keeping it closed even after it met health and safety requirements.

The city threatened parents with arrest if they sent their children to Shuvu instead of registering them in the city's  school system.

Knesset Member Rabbi Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism--UTJ) told a Kfar Saba official, "You don’t want Shuvu in your city due to your bias against observant Jews, and this is in direct opposition to 200 parents, all residents of your city."

Minutes of a closed meeting of Kfar Saba revealed a quote that "Hareidim have no place in our city" and "other schools have taken secular Jews and turned them into religious Jews; we can’t allow Shuvu to operate."
