Jews at a British synagogue have gone beyond the usual step of asking congregants to turn off their cell phones during prayers and have asked the rabbi if Jewish law prohibits their use during services. One congregant suggested using a cell phone jammer in the synagogue, and members of the congregation decided to ask the rabbi for a decision according to halacha (Jewish law).

Three rabbis then signed a letter urging synagogues around the world to install jammers, which overcome the problem of congregants who forget to turn off their phones during the recital of prayers.
