(IsraelNN.com) The IDF said it will arrest and try the officer with the rank of major who took a wrong turn and found himself at the mercy of Islamic Jihad terrorists in Jenin on Monday. Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces rescued the officer after a crowd overturned his car and set it on fire.

The Islamic Jihad said its fighters were "surprised by members of the Preventive Security Service who surrounded them and took him." The timing of the incident, one day before a meeting between Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, gives Abbas leverage in proving that Fatah forces are overcoming terror although the IDF officer was only minutes away from being kidnapped or killed.
