A last-minute warning by air controllers at Ben Gurion airport Thursday prevented a possible tragedy involving an Iberia Airline plane that was preparing to land on the wrong runway. The pilot began his descent towards a runway that is being repaired until controllers ordered him to change direction.
An initial investigation concluded that the pilot erred, and Voice of Israel government radio reported that he did not possess a map of the runways.
In a separate and unrelated incident, a small plane crashed near Kiryat Tivon Friday morning, causing heavy damage to the craft but no injuries.
