Pro-Israel Christian groups are upset over a letter signed by several dozen evangelicals backing a new Palestinian Authority (PA) state. The letter was sent to American President George W. Bush, and one of the signers, Rod Sider, told The New York Times, ''This group is in no way anti-Israel, and we make it very clear we're committed to the security of Israel, but... the vast majority of the West Bank" should be part of a new Arab state.
The International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem responded, "Telling the President that Israel and Palestinians have equal rights to the land is a big mistake. The Bible says the land belongs to God and He bequeathed it to the Jewish people. That's as true today as when the title was vested in Abraham 4,000 years ago... You can't say you believe in a Palestinian state and fear God."
