Special Knesset Session on Tamir, Heftziba

Several opposition parties have asked for a special Knesset session to discuss the collapse of Heftziba and actions by Education Minister Yuli Tamir (Labor) to restrict Sherut Leumi (National Service) for religious girls.

Knesset Members from Meretz and United Torah Judaism (UTJ) are interested in setting up a parliamentary committee to investigate the Heftziba scandal and provide solutions for families that paid their savings for new apartments before the company went bankrupt.

Likud and National Union MKs want to discuss moves by Education Minister Tamir that would prohibit Sherut Leumi girls from teaching classes because they do not have university degrees. The girls act as replacements and not as full-time teachers.
