A number of fairly famous cantors are scheduled to appear at a concert September 3 at Rishon LeTzion, and proceeds will be used for writing a new Torah scroll in honor of Jonathan Pollard, who is serving a life term in prison, in the United States, for passing classified information to Israel. Others convicted for similar offenses normally are sentenced to a maximum of four years in jail.
Supporters of the rally said that an additional world-famous cantor also may appear. Former Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau and Kadima Housing Minister Zev Boim also will attend.
