The European Union (EU) has agreed to resume paying for fuel for Gaza generating stations, and fuel trucks are crossing into the Gaza region at this hour. Israel suspended fuel shipments last Thursday after intelligence officers warned that terrorists were planning to attack.
Gaza authorities said the following afternoon that lack of fuel deliveries would force its generating stations to shut down. After Israel agreed to resume the shipments, the EU said it no longer would pay for deliveries because Hamas was planning to levy new taxes.
Hamas accused the rival Fatah faction of plotting with the EU to punish Hamas for its military takeover of Gaza three months ago.
