“Israeli Firefighting Services are not prepared for the next war,” said Shimon Romeach, Chief of Israeli Firefighting and Rescue Services, in a special Knesset session on Monday. The session was held in response to a scathing report by the National Ombudsman about the lack of preparedness of the Israeli homefront during the Second Lebanese War. Romeach said the department was heavily lacking manpower and supplies and was not suited organizationally to meet the task. The ombudsman’s report severely criticized the Fire Department for its lack of preparedness for the war.
