Public Phone Dearth May Cost Bezeq NIS 200,000 in Suit

What do you do if you've eschewed cell phones but can't find public “land line” phones from which to make a call “in the field?” Well, if you're like one Rishon LeTzion resident, you sue.

According to the man, Avraham Sadeh, there is a dearth of public telephones in Israel, as the vast majority of people prefer to use cell phones. Sadeh himself is not anti-cell phone, per se. But, he says, he has five “telecards,” phone cards with a specific cash value used to make calls at public phone booths. Sadeh says he cannot find any phones with which to use his telecards, and he says that Bezeq, despite repeated requests on his part, has absolutely refused to refund his money. This, Sadeh says, is a breach of contract – and he wants NIS 200,000 from the phone company for denying him the use of the product he purchased.

A Bezeq spokesperson said that the company had not yet seen the complaint, but that there was no substance to Sadeh's claims. “In the city where this gentleman lives there are hundreds of public phones that utilize telecards, and there are a number in the immediate area of his residence,” the spokesperson said.
