Gilboa Regional Council director Danny Atar and Jenin officials are planning the first free trade zone in the Palestinian Authority (PA), designed to create up to 10,000 jobs. Atar called the project a "golden opportunity."
Both Israel and the PA have asked the World Bank for $14 million in funding for the 250-acre zone, where manufactured products can be exported tax-free to the United States.
Jenin, which has been described as the capital of terrorists, has suffered economically since the Oslo War, when terrorist activity forced Israel to impose tighter travel restrictions in the area.
