Hamas officials said Sunday that they have been secretly negotiating with rival terrorist group Fatah, which currently controls the Palestinian Authority.  PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has approved the talks, they said, but prefers to keep them quiet in order to maintain ties with Israel and the United States.

Abbas aid Ahmed Rahman denied the claims.  Hamas is deliberately creating false rumors of negotiations with Fatah, he said, in order to boost its own political standing.
