Outstanding Soldiers to Fight Draft Dodging

(IsraelNN.com) Soldiers who received awards for their outstanding service during the Second Lebanon War may speak to high school students during the upcoming school year and encourage them to enlist.  National Religious Party (NRP) Secretary-General Sar Shalom Jerby recently wrote a letter to Education Minister Yuli Tamir asking that the soldiers be allowed to speak to students in order to fight the phenomena of draft dodging.

Jerby has called for motivational talks in high schools, and says that Israeli youth must meet “the nation’s true heroes”—IDF soldiers.  As part of Jerby’s plan, combat soldiers and reserve officers would return to speak in the high schools from which they graduated in order to form a personal connection with students and encourage them to participate in some form of national service.
