The Gaza-based Hamas terrorist organization announced Saturday the formation of a 150-member Marine Police unit, which it said would prevent drug smuggling while providing protection for swimmers and fishermen.
The new body, intended to act as a coast guard, will soon operate in the waters off the coast of Gaza, according to Saber Khalifeh, a spokesman for the Hamas Executive Force.
At present, however, the Hamas Marine Police has no ships.
