The Galilee is in good shape a year after the Second Lebanon War, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told American Jewish journalists Thursday. The Prime Minister's optimism put him in a position of claiming that the government has taken care of severe deficiencies in the government's protection of the north while not refusing American financial contributions.
The journalists are in Israel on a United Jewish Communities mission to show how the UJC's $360 million in donations is being used. Prime Minister Olmert has tried to defend himself against allegations that the government abandoned the north during the war and has not fortified shelters against Katyusha rocket attacks.
