Fischer Says Economy Stronger than Corruption

Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Stanley Fischer has said that the Israeli economy and stock market are strong enough to withstand the alleged corruption concerning the Heftzibah construction company. He told Globes magazine that Israel is not more corrupt than other nations but that "we just talk about it more."

Fischer, who moved to Israel more than two years ago to take the job as Bank Governor, added, "We are at a time of uncertainty. We don't know what's going to happen, and so clearly this is not the easiest of times... We have seen that, every time there is a crisis, you start to discover connections and consequences you never dreamed of... What's clear to me is that our economy is in a very good position."
