Hamas has extended its control over the Gaza area to the Mediterranean Sea, where it has set up a navy patrol armed with artillery from the shoreline. Hamas does not have any vessels at this point.

Hamas's strategy has been to prevent rival Fatah factions from cooperating with the Israeli government and the IDF, and the object of the new deployment is to attack the IDF as well as criminal elements.
