The police department's fraud division will question Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on his involvement in the sale of the government's shares of Bank Leumi when he was Finance Minister in the Sharon government. His testimony will be critical towards a decision by State Prosecutor Eran Shendar whether to proceed with an investigation and possible indictment against the Prime Minister.

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz has excused himself from the case because his sister was the Finance Ministry's legal advisor at the time of the sale.

Prime Minister Olmert is suspected of using his position to help two business friends win the tender for the sale of the government's shares in the bank. Both men eventually discontinued their bidding.
