According to the Peace Index for the month of July, 53 percent of the Jewish public in Israel is against making any territorial withdrawals within the framework of a peace agreement with the Arabs.
Fifty-nine percent believe that Israel was wrong to release terrorists in order to strengthen PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Seventy-nine percent are opposed to releasing Tanzim terrorist leader Marwan Barghouti, who was sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in the murder of Jews. Sixty-three percent do not believe that negotiations with the PA will lead to any form of peace.
The Peace Index Project is conducted at the Tami Steinmetz Center for Peace Research and the Evens Program in Mediation and Conflict Resolution of Tel Aviv University, headed by Prof. Ephraim Yaar and Prof. Tamar Hermann.
