The Associated Press has selected its best photos of the year, with a special focus on photos from the Second Lebanon War. Nearly all of the photos depict the suffering of Lebanese civilians, while the plight of Israelis is hardly shown.

The winning photos show a Lebanese father holding the body of his 18 month old son; women mourning in Kafr Kana; Lebanese civilians carrying a body, the ruins of the Hizbullah headquarters in southern Beirut; a Hizbullah man looking at Israel through binoculars and another ruined house in Beirut.

Only one photo shows an Israeli women from Kiryat Shemona, Ester Vaknin, running downstairs when an alarm goes off.
